Southern border
Title 42
Immigrants crossing the southern border has been a contested and hot button issue for both parties. Title 42’s authority comes from the 1944 public health law allowing curbs of immigration in the name of public health.
The one that expired this month was enacted by the Trump administration using Covid to expel immigrants from the us and encourage seeking asylum via online process. Since the policy was put in place at the begging of the pandemic more 2.8 million migrants were turned away except families with small children.
